History

Generations Forestry, Inc., based in Kane Pennsylvania, was formed in 2013 by Ken Kane from the acquisition of consulting forestry companies that Ken was member of for 30 years.  The name Generations Forestry was carefully chosen to reflect the core belief and understanding that forest management decisions made today have a profound effect on future generations.

Ken started his forestry career as a summer intern in the 1970’s brushing and painting boundary lines and girdling trees.  After graduation from Penn State, Ken worked as a Research Technologist for the Penn State Department of Land and Water Resources and as an Assistant Manager for Baillie Lumber Company before joining Keith Horn, Inc in 1983.

This core belief exists from an extension of the careers of foresters who were mentors and have been reinforced by experience. Ken’s primary mentor, Keith Horn, started his career as a field forester for Hammermill Paper Company responsible for managing and acquiring various sized properties into larger management units. Keith’s success as a field forester propelled him into the position of forest supervisor for Hammermill Paper Company’s forest land division.  Keith’s passion for field forestry led him into consulting forestry where most of his time was spent in the field where Keith believed a forester best exercised his profession.  This belief and time spent in the field provided a better understanding of the forest ecosystem and the various influences upon the resource.  This understanding is the foundation of the growth of the business through increases in client services, forest health and diversity, public education, professional development, and policy while promoting sustainability of the resource.

The success and growth of the business caused Keith to hire Ken in 1983, doubling the field staff.  The company continued to grow with additions to the field staff. Responding to client resource needs services expanded from the traditional timber inventory and sales to aerial spraying, forest regeneration, forest products marketing, subsurface developments, public outreach and forest policy issues which led to leadership roles in professional organizations.

Ken’s desire to continue the success of the business through our commitment to clients, the resource, and our employees resulted in Ken’s acquisition of the business on 2013.  The renaming to Generations Forestry was chosen to best fit these commitments.
